I just finished a load of whites. My dryer has a few notches to choose from when drying cottons - More Dry, Less Dry, and Optimum Dry. I frequently defy the machine's wisdom by selecting a cycle somewhere between "less" and "optimum".
I play by my own rules.

I like to go with More Dry, but that's because I usually stuff the thing full.
Although, I will say that every time I do whites, one or two of my socks get caught between the flap-thingy's and the side of the dryer and don't get dry. I'm always so miffed when that happens.
